CCFFWA mission statement

The mission of the Carroll County Forest Fire Wardens Association is to support the protection of New Hampshire’s natural forest resources from the threat of wildfire primarily in Carroll County. To encourage and provide training for Wardens, Deputy Wardens and firefighters in safe and efficient wildfire suppression techniques. Promote public education in regard to wildfire prevention and advocate for protective policies and adequate funding for and from local, state and federal agencies for the protection of New Hampshire’s natural forest resources from the threat of wildfire.

Wildland Fire Academy

WILDLAND FIRE ACADEMY June 8-11, 2017

ACADEMY DESCRIPTION:  This academy is designed to increase the level of knowledge and skills of mid-level firefighters. The courses include training in the use of Leadership, Risk Management and Communications.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

S-270 Basic Air Operations: This course covers aircraft types and capabilities, aviation management and safety for flying in and working with agency aircraft, tactical and logistical uses of aircraft, and requirements for helicopter take-off and landing areas. Note: The regulations, procedures and policies addressed in this course are primarily those governing federal agency and ICS operations. State, county, or other political subdivisions using this course will need to consult their agency having jurisdiction with respect to regulations, procedures and policies.

S-230 Single Resource Boss: This S-230 course was developed using a blended approach to learning, meaning that it contains a mix of online and instructor-led training (ILT). The final assessment covers content from both the online and ILT portions of the course Students will learn how describe crew boss responsibilities prior to and during mobilization, on the incident, and during demobilization. Identify the hazards and risks on various incidents and describe how to mitigate them. Describe tactics which are appropriate to various wildland fire situations and procedures to implement them through the chain of command.

S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaws: The course lessons provide introduction to the function, maintenance and use of internal combustion engine powered chain saws, and their tactical wildland fire application. Field exercises support entry level training for firefighters with little or no previous experience in operating a chain saw, providing hands-on cutting experience in surroundings similar to fireline situations.

 

TRAINEE PREREQUISITES:  

S-270 Basic Air Operations: Satisfactory completion of pre-course work.

S-230 Single Resource Boss: Preference will be given to individuals who area Qualified as firefighter type 1 (FFT1) and have successfully completed of Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior (S-290).

S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaws: Preference will be given to those qualified as a firefighter type 2 (FFT2).

REGISTRATION FEE:  None 

TUITION:  No cost

 NOMINATION PROCESS:

  • Priority will be given to WMNF Personnel; NH Fire Crew Personnel, Wardens, Special Deputy Wardens and Deputy Wardens.
  • Deadline for submitting the names of candidates will be May 16th, 2017.
  • Agencies will be notified by May 23rd, 2017 of successful candidates.

ACCOMMODATIONS:  A list of hotels in the area will be available upon request.

CLASS SIZE: Each course is limited to 20 students and a minimum of 6 students is required to hold each course.  White Mountain National Forest and New Hampshire Forests and Lands firefighters will be given priority.
