COURSE TITLE:     S-130 Basic Wildland Firefighter Training

DATES:  Classroom – July 18, 20, 25, 27 – 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm

               Field Day – July 29, – 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

COURSE COORDINATOR:  Douglas Miner

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The intent of this course is to train new firefighters in basic wildland firefighting skills. This includes a required field exercise that may be arduous in nature. 

TRAINEE PREREQUISITES:  Students are required to complete the following NWCG online training courses; S-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior and L-180 Human Factors on the Fireline. These online courses are available at the NWCG Wildland Fire Learning Portal: https://wildlandfirelearningportal.net/ Create your training account and student profile first before starting the online courses in order to track your progress and to obtain a certificate of completion. Upon completion of the NWCG S-190 and L-180 online courses, students are required to email the certificates of completion to the course coordinator prior to the first day of class for the in-person S-130 course.

TUITION:  No cost

NOMINATION PROCESS:

  • Nomination forms will be accepted until 4:00pm on June 30, 2023. When the course is full, this information will be noted next to the announcement posted on the agency website at: https://www.nh.gov/nhdfl/community/fire-warden-information/wildland-fire-training.htm
  • Priority is on a first-come, first-served basis and all candidates will receive an email reply with their final nomination status as soon as possible and no later than July 7, 2023.

COURSE COORDINATOR: Douglas Miner LEAD INSTRUCTOR: Tom Trask
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to provide knowledge and skills to design, setup, operate, troubleshoot, and shut down portable water delivery systems. The focus is on portable pumps– it does not address water delivery for engines. Topics covered include: portable water delivery systems; equipment; roles and responsibilities; and system design and hydraulics. There is also a field exercise where students will apply what they learned in the classroom. Students must participate in the entire course and pass the final exam in order to receive an NWCG certificate of completion.


TARGET GROUP: Personnel desiring to be qualified as Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1) or Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5), or those wanting to learn more about portable pumps and water use.

PRE-COURSE WORK: None
TUITION: No cost
