Chief Ray Chandler passes away 8/16/2016
Raymond P. Chandler, 85, Retired Fire Chief of Gorham, passed away on Tuesday August 16, 2016 at Mineral Springs in North Conway. He was born in Worcester, MA on October 26, 1930 the son of Philip R. and Kathleen (St. Clair) Chandler and was raised in Bartlett, NH. He attended school in Bartlett and was a US Navy Veteran. Ray had lived in Gorham for over 60 years and had been employed by TOP Furniture prior to becoming the Fire Chief for the Town of Gorham, where he served for many years. He was a member of the Gorham Congregational Church, UCC, the American Legion and was a dedicated member and Past Officer the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1464, as well as the State Aerie. Ray was a member of the New Hampshire Association of Fire Chief’s, an Instructor Emeritus with the New Hampshire Fire Academy, was Coos County Representative for the New Hampshire State Fireman’s Association for over 20 years, as well as a member of many other fire service associations and organizations.
Family includes his daughter a Laurie Chandler of Sarasota, FL; a son-in-law Alvin (Bo) Gross of Jefferson, NH; granddaughters Courtney Gamans and husband Chris of Hooksett, NH and Jennifer Frazee and husband Norm and his son Kyle of Nantucket, MA; a great granddaughter Luella Frazee of Nantucket, MA; step daughters Lori Boisselle and husband Matthew and their children of Gorham, NH and Lisa Dore and children of TN; a brother Donald Chandler of Silver Lake, NH; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Judith (Clark) Chandler and his daughter Rae Jean (Chandler) Gross.
SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held on Saturday afternoon August 20, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Gorham Congregational Church, UCC. Interment will be in the Bartlett Village Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 1 Promenade St., Gorham on Friday evening from 5 to 8 PM. On Wednesday, July 27th, 2016, the Division of Forests and lands had a dedication ceremony and open house to celebrate the restoration of the Green Mountain Fire tower.

Congratulations go out to Gordon Lang for his service to the Town of Jackson. 42 years as the Forest Warden! At the Wednesday April 22nd, 2015 meeting, John Dodge presented Gordon with a Certificate of Merit, signed by Jeff Rose and Brad Simpkins. Thank you for your service Gordon and good luck to Kenny Crowther, his son-in-law, as he takes over the role for the Town of Jackson.
